Hurricane Preparedness Hype or Preventive Measure

Hurricane Irene was predicted to wreak major havoc on the east coast of Canada and the U.S and failed to live up to the hype of the media. Do you think all the mandatory evacuations and preparations were wothwhile or will they simply make people more complacent next time around. I know" damned if you do or damned if you don't" In this post Katrina age is crying wolf gonna get old???

Changing Demographics

With the number of " baby boomers" set to retire in the next decade what challenges do you forsee for the claims handling business. With all that experience retiring who will be handling the more complex claims? What about specialty lines? Is there enough training going on to educate people in the interim?

Eru gögnin þín rétt?

Data are considered deadly boring so we tried to be clever with the title of this piece. It’s Icelandic for “Are your data accurate?” We hope our choice of language makes the subject sound cool.

Insurers love data with a passion. Some of the stuff is accurate, most is open to varying degrees of interpretation. However, per Clifford Stoll, “Data is not information, information is not knowledge, knowledge is not understanding, understanding is not wisdom.” In…

I Phone App

Do you think adjusting firms or contractors would benefit from an i phone or Android application allowing them to file either a "reserves" or "initial damage assessment report to an insurer from their phone while at the loss scene.

We we’re consumed with anger, a powerful emotion that fuelled our…

Back from Down Under

Just spent six weeks in Queensland Australia working the aftermath of Cyclone Yasi. Great country with wonderful people. I'm now looking for a new opportunity to keep me busy between now and the start of hurricane season. If you could use the services of a 37 year veteran of the claims industry who is fluently bilingual and proficient in all lines P&C except for auto then drop me a line or call 613-288-8754
