Ross is focused on the development of McInnes Cooper’s insurance defence practice. While he has appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada, as well courts in all the Maritime Provinces, his emphasis is always on successfully managing matters for his clients to avoid the uncertainty of trials. In his over 35 years of practice, Ross has handled every type of insurance defence matter from personal injury to complex fidelity claims. He was also counsel in the case resulting in the over-turning of Nova Scotia’s ban on Sunday shopping.
Ross is well known to CBC audiences for his three-year stint on the weekly TV news panel, Canada Now: Politics Now, and his regular radio commentaries. He is a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society, the Canadian Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Nova Scotia Insurance Institute, the Canadian Defence Lawyers and serves on the executive of the Blue Goose (a fraternal insurance society). Ross has also held executive roles in many community groups, both charitable and political. He is an avid cyclist, raising thousands of dollars for the MS Society during its annual Bike Tour event and increasing heart health awareness as a member of the Heartland Tour cross-province cycling team. In addition to being a frequent speaker and panelist on legal and insurance matters, Ross was a lecturer on commercial law in the Faculty of Commerce at Saint Mary’s University for 13 years.
