In addition, numerous individuals, companies and associations within and related to the insurance industry have held or sponsored events specifically to raise funds for WICC or directed the proceeds of their annual events to WICC.

The involvement of all WICC supporters and volunteers has made it possible for WICC to achieve its Mission: To mobilize the Canadian Insurance Industry in the fight against cancer by focussing on cancer research, support and education.

A 'Night at the Races' Fundraiser ... with Fine Dining and Thoroughbred Horse Racing - was held at Woodbine Racetrack on September 7th -- produced by hosts Fred De Francesco and Bill Blakeney. The trackside fundraiser in support of WICC (Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade) featured an evening that began with cocktails, followed by a multi-course dinner and then casual conversation with attendees and guests during the evening's Thoroughbred races -- including time spent with special invited guest "Rob Ford, Mayor of the City of Toronto".

Fred De Francesco and Bill Blakeney presented WICC Co-Chair Jean Faulkner with a cheque for $20,000 raised through the event.

Insurance Bureau of Canada produced this video [this is the final cut of the video, further to earlier posting] to celebrate WICC's successful participation in a series of Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life events in Ontario in 2011. WICC - Women in Insurance Cancer Crusade (www.wicc.ca) - exists to mobilize the Canadian insurance industry in the fight against cancer.

The Canadian Cancer Society's North York Relay For Life was held on June 24, 2011 at Esther Shiner Stadium and the insurance industry was there in force with numerous teams participating under the Team WICC Banner. Here is [video of] the Opening Lap of that particular 12-hour Relay!

With the help of all teams and participants and their supporters as well as event sponsors, WICC Ontario raised over $368,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society, an outstanding achievement!

Relay For Life is now WICC Ontario's largest fundraising activity. It's a fun, family-friendly event which is also a great networking opportunity. More than 787 people from the insurance community across Canada joined a WICC team at a Relay event this year.

Correction to below (previous) - it was Martin Kabat, CEO of the Ontario division of the Canadian Cancer Society that accepted the cheque at the dinner - not Rick Perciante.

WICC Ontario held its 15th annual gala dinner, ICONIC, on April 13, 2011 at The Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto. In advance of the dinner, hundreds gathered for a cocktail reception + very well supported silent auction [as seen in video clip] – with the dozens of donated items and generous bids helping raise funds in the fight against cancer.

Later in the evening, there was a presentation of the single largest cheque donation from WICC to the Canadian Cancer Society.  On hand to accept the cheque for $825,000, Rick Perciante, CEO of the Ontario division of the Canadian Cancer Society reminded guests of the power that WICC has in the fight against cancer and the many advances in research his organization has been able to achieve thanks to WICC and the 15 years of support by the insurance industry across Canada.  Since the inception of WICC in 1996, more than $5 million has been raised in Ontario alone.
