Canadian Underwriter magazine’s April 2014 issue Digital Edition: http://bit.ly/cuapr14 Cover Story: ‘Power Play’

Mergers and acquisitions activity involving brokerages shows few signs of letting up, looking like it will remain hot to warm over the next year or so before cooling off. How will all this coming together affect broker independence, available distribution, choice for customers and broker opportunities to grow?

Canadian Underwriter magazine’s March 2014 issue Digital Edition: http://bit.ly/cumar14 Cover Story: ‘Weather Beaten?’

Climate change is contributing to sea level rise, coupled with changing temperature and precipitation patterns. This has Canadian municipal risk managers grappling with challenges posed by more frequent and more severe disasters, including flood and damaging winds. While some officials focus on mitigation measures, such as improving drainage and building dikes, some experts suggest the best approach is to discourage development in high-risk areas, or at the very least, enforce building standards that reduce risk.

Claims Canada magazine’s February/March 2014 issue Digital Edition: http://bit.ly/ccfebmar14

Cover Story: ‘QUAKE Conundrum’ – The risk of a major earthquake in certain regions of Canada is real, according to geoscientists and catastrophe modelers. However, the awareness level of residents in vulnerable zones, as measured by the take-up rates of private insurance, is low. Independent adjusters say that while it is difficult to truly prepare for a major earthquake in an urban area, there are some lessons that can be gleaned from recent events in Japan, New Zealand and Chile. The question looming ahead: will Canada be ready for the big one?
