Wondering if anyone has come across a loss situation where a business has sustained considerable long-distance charges caused by an unknown third-party using their phone system. Any insurance mechanism for handling? I don't see cover under any crime or property forms. Telephone lines misappropriated could result in thousands of dollars of long-distance charges which the telephone company will certainly expect payment of, unless relationship supports them waiving.
e.g. late night cleaning staff, or potentially by a current or departed employee. Feedback appreciated. Ryan.
I had a client who had someone hack into their computer system and make long distance phone calls. We had it covered under Crime - Telecommunications Theft. I discussed this with the adjuster and we found this was the only place it is covered. There might also be coverage if there is Computer Hacking on the policy under Crime. Perhaps we should all rally to have these covers added to the policies for all our clients. Mine was through St. Paul/Travelers.
